Where does Kaolin Clay come from?

While Kaolin Clay is found in many parts of the world, its first recorded use dates back to China around the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD). The more Kaolin Clay was used, the more its benefits became apparent, and it remains a staple ingredient in high-quality ceramics to this day, adding strength, a high-gloss sheen, and a glass-smooth finish.

Kaolin Clay and the Claypot Oven

So, as it turns out, Kaolin Clay is a bit of a wonder material. Here are some more features that we love about Kaolin Clay, and what they mean for your Claypot Oven.

Claypot Oven Usage FAQs

Our unique Kaolin Clay Glazing process coats our cookware with the same Kaolin Clay it consists of, which is applied evenly before being fired at over 2000°F, ensuring a solid, glass-like, easy-to-clean finish. This Kaolin Clay Glaze also prevents food from sticking to the surface of our Claypots, requiring less oils and fats when preparing meals. Healthy, convenient, and delicious, the Claypot and Lid are also oven safe, dishwasher safe, and sustainable.

The innate self-insulating properties of our unique Kaolin Claypot, Lid, and Kaolin Glaze composition allow for consistent, even heating and a drastically longer heat retention rate, perfect for cooking meals 4X faster and keeping them warm during service.

In addition to the Claypot Oven heating evenly and retaining this heat for longer periods, it requires far less energy - up to 70% less - than traditional slow cookers.

Our Kaolin Glaze is also excellent at trapping moisture during cooking, making the Claypot Oven perfect for soups and stews, braising fork-tender meats, pasta, casseroles, and more.

Since we use only the purest, thoroughly tested Kaolin Clay for our Claypot, Lid, and Glaze, our cookware preserves your meal’s flavors without any unwanted tastes. The Claypot and Lid are also non-reactive, preventing acidic or alkaline foods from altering your desired flavors. We believe in healthy and nutritious, one-pot cooking for convenient, delicious, home meals.

Your new Kaolin Claypot is the unsung hero of the kitchen, keeping all those essential vitamins and minerals locked in during cooking. Claypot crafted meals not only taste amazing but are packed with all the good stuff your body needs.

The Claypot Oven has a low profile, making it the perfect size for your oven (crisp, bake, or use it as a Dutch oven), dishwasher, refrigerator (if there are leftovers), and kitchen cabinets. The Claypot Oven can take the place of your serving dish, braiser, stew pot, casserole pan, multicooker, slow cooker, rice maker, and more. True fire-to-table, multitasking talent.

The Claypot and Lid are thoroughly tested by independent, third-party labs to ensure purity. Our products pass all tests and contain ZERO heavy metals, PFAS, forever chemicals, or any other nasties. Kaolin Clay is known for its purity, and we aim to keep it that way.

Eco-friendly Kaolin Clay cookware - with a little TLC - can last a family generations. Kaolin Clay is a natural, biodegradable material, and its production has a lower environmental impact compared to the manufacturing of aluminum and synthetic coatings. Please contact your local recycling program to discuss options on the disposal of biodegradable clay products… in 30, maybe 40 years.

Our unique process of glazing the Claypot and Lid in more Kaolin Clay creates a finish that is not only glass-smooth and easy to clean, but extremely durable and chip resistant as well… like, decades durable. When we performed a MOHS hardness test on the Claypot (a scratch test that reveals how strong a material is), we found that The Claypot and Lid rated at 8.5 while glazed aluminum cookware rated at 2.5. For reference, a copper penny rates at 3, while tungsten steel and granite countertops rate between 8 and 9.
