Claypot Oven Usage FAQs
Well, it looks like you caught us in a fib… sort of. While it’s true, meals have been crafted in clay for centuries, we do feel that we’ve created something a bit different… or maybe “newer” would be a better term. Here’s why:
- Kaolin Clay - Simply put, it’s stronger, smoother, healthier, saves energy, and has superior retention qualities - heat, moisture, nutrients, & flavor - than any other material we tested.
- Kaolin Clay Glaze - Most glazes contain chemical agents that “leach” into your food, so we developed our own glaze that’s crafted from the same amazing material it coats. And of course, we take every measure to ensure safety. Our materials are independently, third-party tested for heavy metals like lead and cadmium, PFAS, and other forever chemicals and found to be clean, safe, and sustainable.
- Versatility - The 4QT Claypot has a beautifully functional low-profile design. Enjoy crafting your favorite recipes with 8 Preset Functions, or use your Claypot as a Dutch oven, a serving dish (fire-to-oven), leftover storage, or turn your lid upside-down for a neat, compact, easy to store appliance. It’s also dishwasher safe!
- Generational Durability - On the MOHS hardness scale - which rates the hardness of materials from 1 to 10 - the Claypot and Lid rate at 8.5, while standard non-stick coated aluminum rates at 2.5. For some reference, a human fingernail rates at 2.5, and a granite countertop rates between 8 and 9 (with diamonds at 10). Taken care of properly, the Claypot and Lid will last for decades.
Your new Claypot is a roomy 4 quarts, perfect for a 4 lb roast or pork shoulder, a whole, medium chicken, loads of rice, and plenty more. Big enough to feed a crowd, but not so big that it hogs up all of your kitchen space.
Yes, the exterior of the Claypot Oven - including the Base, Claypot, and Lid - can get warm during use. Please keep children and pets away, and use care when you are working around the unit. Also ensure that the Claypot Oven is placed on an even, secure surface during use.
Yes. It is perfectly safe to store leftovers in the Claypot and Lid - and they fit nicely, too. However, since Kaolin Clay is a natural insulator, we do suggest that you let your dish cool beforehand.
The MAGNIFIQUE Claypot Oven boasts 8 handy functions: Slow Cook, Braise, Sear/Sauté, Keep Warm, White Rice, Brown Rice, Oats, and Pasta. In our MAGNIFIQUE Test Kitchen, we’ve whipped up flavor-rich soups, stews, fork-tender meats, fluffy rice, perfect al dente pasta, and munch, munch more.
The bottom of the Claypot Oven does get warm during cooking, so it's best to prepare meals in a safe, clutter-free spot. When it's time to serve, you can place the Claypot directly on your table, but we recommend using a trivet or pot holder to keep your table protected. Safety and style, all in one.
Yes, you can use the Keep Warm mode on the table, but thanks to the natural insulation of Kaolin Clay, it's not always necessary. The Claypot and Lid retain heat like a champ, keeping your food warm and fresh. For longer serving times, we do recommend keeping the Claypot Oven plugged in on a safe, level countertop while using the Keep Warm function.
Unless using the Sear/Sauté Mode, we strongly urge you to always use the Claypot Oven with the lid in place to avoid injury. Safety first, deliciousness second.
Please do not fill the Claypot all the way to the top. Overfilling can cause liquids to drip into the Claypot Oven Base and create an electrical hazard.
No, the Claypot Oven does not have a delayed start function.
While the Claypot Oven can support high temperatures and is oven safe, we do not recommend using it on an open flame.
Nope. Our Claypot shines as a stew pot, casserole dish, Dutch oven, and “munch” more, but it’s all pure clay, no metal core. So, no induction cooktops, but plenty of other uses!
Claypot Oven Materials FAQs
- Kaolin Clay is the superhero of clays—safe, sustainable, and known for its unbeatable durability and high fusion temperature. It’s been used for everything from fine china to ancient building materials for thousands of years.
- Our Kaolin Clay is fired at over 2000° Fahrenheit in our special Kaolin Glazing Process and third-party tested for heavy metals and forever chemicals. The results? No PFAS, lead, cadmium, or any other nasties. Just pure, safe clay.
If you’d like to see our third-party testing results, please send an email to hi@cookmagnifique.com and we’d love to share them with you.
Yes, the Claypot and Lid are oven safe up to 500°F. Use it as a Dutch oven, to bake your favorite bread, or to crisp the casserole you just Slow Cooked, and then bring it straight to your table to serve (please use pot holders and a trivet).
Totally. But it's so easy to clean by hand, you might not even bother. Just use a soft sponge and mild soap to gently wipe away any food. For those stubborn stick-ons, let it soak in warm, soapy water for a bit, then wipe it clean. For SUPER STUBBORN stick-ons, a sprinkle of Baking Soda with a splash of water and a gentle scrub works wonders. Easy peasy.
Ew, no. Our unique combination of using Kaolin Clay for our Claypot, Lid, and Glaze enables us to craft a superior product without the use of chemicals commonly used in other “non-stick” glazes. Our Kaolin Clay is independently, third-party tested and contains ZERO “forever chemicals,” - PFAS, lead, cadmium, or any other nasties.
If cared for properly, your Claypot & Lid will last for generations. However, they are both sustainable and biodegradable should you need to dispose of them (please contact your local recycling company for instructions… in a few decades, maybe).
Claypot Oven Care FAQs
Yep. Prior to cooking up a storm, wash the Claypot and Lid with a soft sponge and mild soap. Also, give the main base unit a wipe-down with a slightly damp, soapy cloth, rinse with a clean, damp cloth, and then dry it off. Good to go.
We recommend running your Claypot Oven with the casserole dish inserted and lid attached for 10 minutes before first use. This will burn off any leftover packing materials or machining residue.
Please use non-metal utensils to avoid scratching the interior of the Claypot, or use the included Serving Spatula.
100%. With the Claypot Oven’s low profile, it is a breeze to store, but if you have a shallow cabinet, simply flip your lid upside-down for additional space.
